{"id":192,"date":"2021-05-12T16:27:00","date_gmt":"2021-05-12T14:27:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/12d.it\/naie\/?p=192"},"modified":"2024-02-12T12:18:42","modified_gmt":"2024-02-12T11:18:42","slug":"natural-alternatives-international-becomes-first-company-to-meet-new-ssci-benchmarking-standards","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.naie.ch\/de\/2021\/05\/12\/natural-alternatives-international-becomes-first-company-to-meet-new-ssci-benchmarking-standards\/","title":{"rendered":"Natural Alternatives International Becomes First Company to Meet New SSCI Benchmarking Standards"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table><tbody><tr><td>Contact: Justin Bartolomeo<br>(202) 400-0480<br><a href=\"mailto:justin@jmbpublicrelations.com\">justin@jmbpublicrelations.com<\/a><\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">WASHINGTON, May 12, 2021 \u2013 Natural Alternatives International (NAI) has become the first company to meet new safety and benchmarking standards created by the Supplement Safety &amp; Compliance Initiative (SSCI).&nbsp; The announcement follows a more than five-year effort by the world\u2019s leading nutritional supplement retailers\u2013including Walmart and GNC\u2013in collaboration with the Natural Products Association (NPA) and its members, to set globally harmonized benchmarking standards for natural products.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Some of the world\u2019s largest nutritional supplement retailers including Amazon and Walmart have acknowledged SSCI as a benchmarking standard that companies must meet in order to sell products on their platforms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cSSCI brings some of the largest retailers, raw material manufacturers and suppliers, dietary supplement manufacturers and other stakeholders together to assist in strengthening safeguards and helping to ensure regulatory compliance from harvest to retailer shelf,\u201d said Dadrion Gaston, Senior Director Corporate Compliance, Health &amp; Wellness Product &amp; Supply Chain Safety for Walmart, and a Board Member of SSCI.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cSSCI is a retailer-led initiative looking to establish the guidance and thought systems necessary to ensure quality, authenticity, safety, and cGMP compliance needed to reduce safety risk,\u201d said Sudipta Veeramachaneni, Ph.D., Vice President of Global Research &amp; Development &amp; Innovation for GNC, and a Board Member of SSCI.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI would like to thank everyone who participated in this effort,\u201d said Daniel Fabricant, Ph.D., President and CEO of NPA.&nbsp; \u201cThis bold first step is what will maintain consumer confidence globally and will lay the foundation for future audits. We\u2019re extremely grateful to every member of the group who worked hard to pull this together.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">SSCI was established in 2015 to strengthen the quality control measures involved with nutritional supplements.&nbsp; Industry leaders determined that the international nutritional supplement supply chain lacked harmonized standards.&nbsp; This reflection led to the idea for an organization by the industry, for the industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe goal for SSCI was to establish a system with the understanding that that the FDA can\u2019t solve all our problems,\u201d added Fabricant.&nbsp; \u201cInstead, we\u2019re going to show consumers and regulators that they can have confidence in the industry, and this industry-wide effort is how we are going to do that.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Companies interested in the SSCI process and retailers interested in knowing who has participated in SSCI can find that information on the SSCI website.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">###<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The<\/strong>&nbsp;<strong>Supplement Safety &amp; Compliance Initiative (SSCI)&nbsp;<\/strong>is an industry-driven initiative&nbsp;<em>led by retailers&nbsp;<\/em>to provide a harmonized benchmark to recognize various safety standards throughout the entire dietary supplement supply chain.
